minitap: bringing the power and velocity of AI‑driven coding to mobile apps

Today we are proud to announce our investment in minitap, bringing the power and velocity of AI‑driven coding to mobile apps.
While mobile remains one of the largest, fastest‑growing platforms globally - it still lags behind web in terms of development velocity and iteration speed. Web developers today often lean on AI‑powered tools for rapid prototyping, code generation, and iterative refinement. But mobile teams don’t have an equivalent: platform fragmentation (iOS, Android), device and OS diversity, touch-based UI's, these create unique challenges that general‑purpose coding AI's struggle to overcome. minitap solves this by building the infrastructure for AI agents to directly access mobile devices, write code, run UI & integration tests, find bugs, fix issues, and iterate - effectively enabling an AI-native mobile development stack from ideation to release.
With this we saw a complex problem and a resulting huge opportunity gap in the market here.  Most mobile time is spent inside native apps, and the mobile‑app market is on track to become a multi‑trillion dollar industry over the coming decade. If mobile teams could ship with the speed of modern web teams, the potential for growth - in travel, consumer apps, enterprise tools, media, social, content, and more, is likely to be massive.  Also, by enabling non‑engineering teams (product, growth) to “vibe up” features with minimal engineering friction, minitap stands to democratise and accelerate mobile product creation across industries.
The main reasons that set minitap apart for us were:
  • End‑to‑end platform: Not just code completion: from AI‑driven code generation to real device testing, bug detection, and fixes
  • Cross‑platform mobile support: Built for Android and iOS, accounting for OS versions, device variability, and touch‑based UI complexity
  • First to market: Filling a clear gap in AI‑driven mobile development tools, with a vision that mirrors but extends beyond what AI tools have done for web
  • Proven technical leadership: Their open-source AI mobile framework ranked #1 globally on AndroidWorld benchmarks
Finally, and most importantly Nico and Luc have real mobile expertise with entrepreneurial drive to deliver on this ambitious challenge. They are long-time friends and have been mobile‑first engineers for years which gives them them unique vantage point into a mobile development team's workflows and challenges in today's world.
